Academic Publication

This journal article investigates the research and policy implications of test optional practices, considering both sides of the debate. Drawing on the expertise of higher education researchers, admissions officers, enrollment managers, and policy professionals, it provides a much-needed evaluation of the use and value of standardized admissions tests in an era of widespread grade inflation.

In a recent virtual event, College Promise hosted a panel featuring top academic voices to discuss this disconnect. The panel heard from CARPE Director, Alexandria Walton Radford, and other experts on top priorities for research in the field, including economic benefits from a national, federal, and state partnership, the future of the workforce, and how this affects postsecondary education and underemployment amongst college graduates.

This interactive figure tracks a complete cohort of freshmen in a state community college system as they go through post-secondary education.

Academic Publication

In this journal article, researchers estimate the effects of Washington’s College Bound Scholarship program on students’ high school grades, high school graduation, juvenile detention and rehabilitation, and incarceration in state prison during high school or early adulthood. The findings indicate insignificant and substantively small or negative effects on these outcomes, calling into question the rationale for such early commitment programs.

This video provides an overview of the study design that AIR’s Regional Educational Laboratory Midwest used to analyze the college and career pathways that students took within 1 year and 6 years of high school graduation. It also presents the study’s findings that will be used to bolster postsecondary success.

This report presents findings related to student and school characteristics associated with early college success from a cohort study of 2014 Indiana high school graduates entering Indiana public 2- or 4-year colleges.
